6th Annual Martial Arts for St. Jude Fundraiser Almost Here!

St. Jude 2012 (77)Woohoo! We can’t wait.  This Saturday, April 27, come on out to Olson’s Martial Arts Academy from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. for our 6th Annual St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital fund-raiser.

We are the #3 Martial Arts School in the country for raising money for St. Jude.  Help us try for #1.  Our goal is HUGE:  $18,000.  But, we feel confident that we can raise it.

This year it’s personal.  One of our Jr. Black Belts is currently being treated by St. Jude.  We want to help him and all the other children that are fighting cancer and other childhood diseases.

So, what’s happening on April 17:ST JUDE LOGO

We will:

  • Break 1,000 boards in 2 hours
  • Have all kinds of carnival games
  • Have great food from places like Texas Road House, Olive Garden, and Subway
  • Show you some high-energy demonstrations
  • Have cupcake eating contests
  • Have crafts
  • Allow you to pie the instructors (uh, see picture above)
  • Have a lot of fun
  • And, most importantly, raise money for a great cause!  If you can’t make it Saturday, click here to make your donation online.

We will also help out our student with a Junkin’ for St. Jude collection.  Bring all your scrap metal–from pie tins to refrigerators.  There will be a dumpster for you to drop it all off.

We also want you to know that all items for this event, from the wood to the food, etc., have been donated.  Therefore every cent collected will go directly to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

We can’t wait to see you on Saturday!

Junkin’ for St. Jude

ST JUDE LOGOOne of our Jr. Black Belts is currently being treated by St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis.  To raise support for St. Jude, he has created Junkin’ for St. Jude.  He collects all kinds of scrap metal, cashes it in, and sends the money to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

As part of our 6th Annual Martial Arts for St. Jude fund raiser, OmniSource is going to provide a dumpster for people to bring their scrap metal to donate.  We are talking everything from aluminum cans & pie tins to refrigerators.

The container will be at Olson’s Martial Arts beginning Friday afternoon (4/26) through the weekend.

Please help us make this his biggest haul yet.

20 Black Belts Awarded Friday Night

Welcome to our new Black Belts!

Friday, April 5, will go down as a very special night for Olson’s Martial Arts.  Two months ago when we
looked at the charts, we realized it was going to be huge; but nothing could prepare us for the energy in the room that night.

This may have been our biggest black belt testing ever, especially with the number of students going for higher ranks:  Eight students earned their 1st Degree Black Belt, four earned their 2nd Degree, seven earned their 3rd Degree, and one earned his Sr. 3rd Degree.

We are proud of the dedication and the perseverance each of these students has demonstrated.  It takes years and hard training to reach these goals.  If you were to take all the years each student trained and added them together, it would be over 80 years!

It was a night full of precise forms, fast-paced sparring, quick-reaction drills, and powerful board breaks.  The judges all felt honored to be able to see it all come together and award their belts and certificates at the end of the night.

What a great night!  Congratulations to all.

  • all 6 color belt forms
  • the drills associated with each form
  • all the color belt board breaks

They showed precision and power in all.  We are proud to welcome them to our staff.

Olson’s Martial Arts Ranks Top 3 in the Country for Martial Arts for St. Jude Events

As we get ready for our 6th Annual Martial Arts for St. Jude Event, we have learned that we are in the top 3 Martial Arts schools in the country for raising money for St.  Jude.  Last year, our goal was $15,000, and we surpassed that by raising $17,000.  Over the past 5 years, we have raised over $42,000 for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

This year, we have set our goal at $18,000, and we want to make it to #1.  And, this year, it’s personal as one of our own students is currently being treated by the wonderful doctors and staff at St. Jude.

“While it is an honor to be in the top 3, it is more rewarding to know that our students and families have been so generous over the years in their support for St. Jude.,” says Amanda Olson.  “It never ceases to amaze me how much people are willing to give.  We already have one family that is paying for all the wood needed to break 1,000 boards.”

“ We’ve always known what a great organization St. Jude is,” says Glenn Olson. “but now that we are hearing first-hand about how much support they give, not only to the patient but to the entire family, it makes us proud to be involved and gives us that push to do even more.”

This year’s event is being held on April 27 from 11:00 – 1:00, and it promises to be even bigger and better.   Our students will once again break 1,000 boards, and we will have carnival events, food, and exciting demonstrations.   Our planning committee is already meeting to come up with new ideas.

Spread the word—we want a huge turnout!
